◎For the <1973-1984 Album Collection> series, each album was remastered using the "Plangent Process" playback system—the current gold standard for analog-to-digital transfer. This process was overseen by legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig, a 7-time Grammy winner who has worked on over 3,000 albums for artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Nirvana, and Daft Punk, and has served as Bruce Springsteen's mastering engineer for 30 years, alongside Springsteen's longtime recording engineer, Toby Scott. By combining advanced modern analog electronics with unique digital signal processing, they used this system to re-align the existing sound waveforms, restoring them to their original state before mechanical changes in the recording tape could alter the timing. Bob Ludwig remarked: "The Plangent Process playback system brings a whole new dimension to the recordings; it connects with me emotionally in a way I've never experienced before."
After Bruce Springsteen heard the test results of the 1978 album "Darkness On The Edge Of The Town" remastered using the "Plangent Process," he accelerated the plan to remaster his first seven albums using the same technology. Although two of these seven albums, "Born To Run" and "Darkness On The Edge Of The Town," were previously remastered in 2005 and 2010 respectively, this compilation features the "Plangent Process," which had not yet been invented at the time, providing an even more faithful and authentic sound, perfectly capturing the rock and roll drive of "The Boss."
