★ Ranked 39th on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
★ Includes 10 bonus tracks featuring Carole King's piano-accompanied versions of the Tapestry album
★ The first woman in Grammy history to sweep four major awards: "Album of the Year (Tapestry)," "Record of the Year (It’s Too Late)," "Song of the Year (You’ve Got A Friend)," and "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female."
Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, Carole King began playing the piano at age four and formed a band in college. However, she first made a name for herself in the music industry as a songwriter. Together with her first husband, Gerry Goffin, they formed a golden songwriting duo; in 1987, they were jointly awarded the National Academy of Songwriters Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 1990, both were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Beyond her songwriting achievements, King's 1971 album "Tapestry" was a massive critical and commercial success, remaining on the charts for 302 weeks, including 15 weeks at the number one spot. At the following year's Grammy Awards, she dominated the ceremony, becoming the first woman to win four major categories: "Album of the Year," "Record of the Year (It’s Too Late)," "Song of the Year (You’ve Got A Friend)," and "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female," with global album sales exceeding ten million copies.
Thirty-seven years later, this album remains an impeccable masterpiece. Like fine wine, it only gets better with age, its musical charm undiminished by time. Many have been inspired by this album to write their own great songs, and the place of "Tapestry" in the history of popular music is surely irreplaceable. This 2008 edition includes 11 bonus tracks recorded during Carole King's 1970s US concert tours, featuring her original piano accompaniments. Whether it's the smooth, rhythmic drive of "I Feel The Earth Move" or the deep, soulful emotion of "So Far Away," these songs seem to possess an even greater magic when accompanied by King’s piano.
