★ Paying tribute to female composers from history and across all genres with her new album "Musica".
★ Features the extraordinary talents of 14 female composers, encompassing both newly commissioned works and rediscovered masterpieces.
Esther Abrami has been committed to celebrating and amplifying the voices of female composers. From her popular podcast "Women in Classical Music" (interviewing influential women musicians, composers, and professionals in the classical music industry) to her EP "Spotlight" dedicated to female composers, Abrami continues her mission to highlight and elevate the contributions of women to classical music.
Esther Abrami states: "For as long as I can remember, the classical music I was exposed to was written entirely by male composers. I spent over 15 years studying classical music at some of the world's top music institutions. In all those years, I never performed a single piece written by a woman. It wasn't that I was deliberately avoiding them—I simply didn't know they existed! No one talked about them, no one played their music, and no one even introduced me to their work. It was only after stepping outside the confines of formal education that I began to question this reality. 'Have women ever written classical music?' As it turns out, they absolutely have! Just when I thought I knew the major composers of classical music inside out, I discovered hidden treasures. I spent months researching and immersing myself in a whole new world of music, listening to the stories of women who had been overshadowed by history. This album is my tribute to them. 'Musica' is a musical journey spanning centuries, told through the voices of women who composed, struggled, lived, and created in the face of adversity. The stories of these women have inspired me to create; they taught me the importance of leaving a mark for future generations to discover. I hope 'Musica' will inspire a new generation of young women to create."
The album features a stellar group of performers, including the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor Irene Delgado-Jiménez, pianist Kim Barbier, harpist Lavinia Meijer, and the Esther Abrami Quintet. "I feel incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with such outstanding orchestras and musicians on such a personal project. Hearing my own work brought to life by an entire orchestra is a memory I will never forget."
With her new album "Musica," Esther Abrami has taken another significant step toward breaking down barriers and redefining the landscape of the genre. Each piece on the album was carefully selected by Esther Abrami, chosen not only for its musical brilliance but also for its emotional connection to her, with the aim of highlighting the female voices that have so often been overlooked in classical music.
